Leave a Historic Legacy with our Planned Giving Program

Planned gifts ensure Rangeley Region history lives on by providing a sustainable future for Historic Rangeley to continue its work of preservation and education. Planned gifts are easy to arrange, are flexible in nature, and benefit both the donor and Historic Rangeley.

Planned gifts benefits include:

  • Reducing income tax and/or reducing exposure to capital gains tax

  • Reducing tax cost to heirs

  • Creating a legacy at Historic Rangeley for future generations

Below are some ways you can leave a historic legacy. We recommend that you discuss these with your financial advisor.

Types of Planned Giving

Gifts identified in a will or trust

Making a bequest is as simple as inserting a few sentences in your will, such as “I give $25,000 to Historic Rangeley to care for the museum collections”, or “for educational programs,” or “to use as necessary and appropriate.” You can also indicate a percentage of the remaining value of your estate after all bequests have been made.

Gifts of life insurance

This is an easy and flexible option. Simply contact your plan administrator and ask to name Historic Rangeley as a beneficiary, transfer ownership of the plan to Historic Rangeley,  or ask about adding a charitable giving rider.

Gifts of stock or appreciated securities

Gifts of stock can help Historic Rangeley meet its more immediate financial needs and provide the donor with tax benefits. Simply contact your financial institution and request the donated shares be directly transferred to Historic Rangeley’s account at Fidelity. Here are the details:

Historic Rangeley Broker: Fidelity

DTC#:0226

Account Name: Rangeley Lakes Region Historical Society

Account Number: 39900000748725186

Routing/ACH #: 101205681

Historic Rangeley Tax ID: 23-7223622

Gifts of stock or appreciated securities greatly benefit Historic Rangeley and may provide you with a double tax benefit: a charitable deduction and avoidance of capital gains tax. Check with your financial advisor! All donors receive an acknowledgement receipt for documentation purposes.

Gifts of retirement distributions by either naming Historic Rangeley as a beneficiary or by making Qualified Charitable Distributions

Naming Historic Rangeley as a beneficiary of your retirement account does not require changing your will, trust, or any other estate plan. As a qualified charity, Historic Rangeley will receive the full value of the gift, estate tax free and income tax free. To make Historic Rangeley a beneficiary, simply contact the administrator of your plan. We recommend that you inform Historic Rangeley of your beneficiary request – this will ensure your planned giving is fulfilled and will entitle you to recognition in The Palmer Society.

Making a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA account to Historic Rangeley is a tax-free gift and can help satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Contact your financial advisor to see if this option is beneficial for you.
